They’re Baaaack!
Laura Rozen reports on the return of the Office of Special Plans, version 2, the Iran plan. It’s the same concept: exile groups to supply “evidence” of nefarious plots that advance the plan to attack Iran.
While Iran/Persia did battle the Roman Empire for an extended period, their last major battle involved war elephants and chariots. The decade long war with Iraq had all of the drama of the average dispute between neighbors over a hedge. A lot of people died, but there isn’t going to be a grand movie nor many doctorates awarded over the study of the conflict.
They got over being a world conqueror a long time ago and became global traders long before there was a Europe to trade with. Before oil was discovered they were known for caviar, carpets, pistachios, and decorative metal work. They were an important factor in the Silk Road and in learning.
How can Iran benefit from becoming a dominate world power? What’s in it for the Iranian people, or the Iranian leaders? After the extended war with Saddam, I don’t see a lot of desire among the people to start another war: it’s too soon.
Iran has reached out to the US several times and been rebuffed. Having watched the US attack countries on both sides, it is reasonable for the Iranians to be nervous.
