Somewhere I have a photo of Catherine’s cat Orpheus, now long since departed from this plane, as a tiny kitten, sitting in one of my shoes. Only a kitten understands the true purpose of a shoe, but a grown cat has some memory of the subject.

One day, I was getting ready to put mine on, when one of the cats sat there, looking expectantly. I got the shoe on, but there was something in it. It was a fake mouse. The cat was happy to get his mouse back:)
