What is also so creepy is not only the *revisionist* history they keep promoting – but the inversion of reality. Not only is George Bush not a coward for avoiding his military duty in the National Guard (and even avoiding those meager duties!) – but he must be TRANSFORMED into a WAR HERO President!
Or similarly, a revisionist history claiming that not only did Clinton cut-and-run in Somalia…and encourage Osama – but that HE was responsible for 9-11. It inverts the historical accuracy that it was really George who IGNORED the “Bin Laden Determined to Attack in the United States” daily briefing memo and went off for a months R&R in Crawford. Or let him wander off to Pakistan from Tora Bora.
Their narratives Invert the entire truth of the situation. Black really tries to be White and Up confuses itself with Down!
…it doesn’t really matter who ended up in the anchor chair of the House the Murrow Built, because the powers controlling CBS would never let something like this be broadcast. After they got burned down over the kerning flap, throwing Rather and the gang under the bus in the process, it was pretty clear that they have adopted the same mentality that Newsweek is displaying with it’s interesting selection of covers for this week’s edition…

One thing I think it’s important to realize is that this particular aftermath of 9/11 was not inevitable. Had Gore assumed the office he rightfully won, and had 9/11 happened anyway (no certainty, IMHO), we would be living in a much different, less chaotic world today. Whether Bush caused 9/11 (not really), whether he was negligent in allowing it to happen (certainly arguable), he is inarguably responsible for just about everything that has happened since. If, God forbid, the United States of America goes to ground, it will be Bush’s actions that pushed it there.
It really is about time at least a little truth was spoken on the airwaves other than on Comedy Central.
Karen, the mission of his Air National Guard unit was real, not just training. They were the air defense component watching Cuba and the Soviets based there. That was necessary as the regular Air Force was tied up in Southeast Asia. It wasn’t a “no show” job.
Jack, I’m just grousing about the low level to which broadcast journalism has fallen in the last decade thanks to corporate ownership.
Steve, these people have done one single thing properly – they have no successes at all. Everything they have touched or tried has turned to garbage and they have done it with real “payday loans”.
