My One-liner For The Day

According to the Blight¹, Hastert isn’t being sandbagged, he’s being hit with a sachet².

See Billmon.

2. Yes, it’s cheap stereotyping, but I’m an old guy and we get to make tasteless jokes.

   Being hit with a sachet
   Has a certain, well, cachet,
But for Dennis, I’ve no potpourri:
I’d ring his neck with rotpourri!

Sachets or sandbags/ decisions, decisions! It looks from this side of the Atlantic that the GOP will stand for a Good old Pasting come the mid term elections.. Is there a real prospect of the Dems taking either house?

“Is there a real prospect of the Dems taking either house?”

Supposedly, yes. But we have seen promising polls before that turn to ashes on election day. I would describe my mood as ‘cautiously pessimistic’. I can’t imagine any of the Republicans I know voting for a Democrat, regardless of how much they disapprove of the current regime. My own particular hope is they will consider staying away from the polls.

Bryan, if it makes you feel any better – my mother is 92 today. By comparison, you’re a nipper-snapper, or at least only almost-old.

Jams, if they get out the vote, the election is the Democrats to lose. The number of Republican miscues has grown, and, as Andante notes, its a matter of Republicans staying home in disgust.

Andante, wish her a very happy birthday from me and the cats. I think my paternal grandfather was “protecting Cuba” when she was born. The things she’s seen in her life is amazing to think about – from horsedrawn carts to the Hubble telescope.
