New Hampshire

My predictions were: Clinton, Obama, Edwards for the Dems, and McCain, Huckabee, Romney for the Reps.

The second and third place finishes for the Reps were swapped in the in the final result.

The turn out was decent, in excess of 50%, and secret ballots really mess up the talking heads.

So, now that 2% of the voters have spoken, we still don’t know anything.

The results of the truly important vote in New Hampshire won’t be reported until later today.

[Update: Marty is the new Mount Washington Topcat with 53% of the vote, avoiding a run-off.]

Marty won with 53% of the vote! (I think it was his coat that was the deciding factor)

It was a bit boring after all of the build up, Frederick, but at least the voters of New Hampshire turned out and made the effort, unlike the slug-a-beds in Iowa.

I was at the site even as you commented, Jill. As Badtux noted earlier, it did look a bit rigged in Marty’s favor.

I had the most accurate prediction of all regarding the Democratic primary in New Hampshire. I predicted that a Democrat would win it :-).

Really, at this point, it doesn’t really matter which of the Democrats running gets the nod. They’re all sane and intelligent people. Which makes them all 1,000,000,000 times better than the current occupant of the office, or, indeed, any of the Republican candidates, all of whom are batshit crazy.

Sanity. It’s vastly underrated. Vote Sanity ’08 in November!

All hail Marty! May his reign as Topcat be long and healthy, and the tuna be tasty!

Greg Palast, alas, will not investigate the circumstances of his selection. Bummer. Guess there’s too many other things to investigate, like voter caging in Florida, defective voting machines in Georgia, that kinda thing…

I think you need local knowledge to do polls in New Hampshire, so you can tell when people are being sarcastic in their answers. It happens a lot, and it takes “active listening” to catch it. [I’ve done some background checks with New Hampshire employers, and they tend not to answer simply.] Suffolk University seems to have the most accurate polling, just as the Des Moines Register had the most accurate polling in Iowa.

If we could get Kucinich’s health care, Richardson’s pragmatism, Dodd’s Constitutional views, and Edwards’s attitude I would be a very happy man.

I noticed that the polls are now reflecting Huckabee’s win in Florida. Rudy is toast, as Florida was supposed to be his “big win”, but, as you say, the entire Rep field is around the bend from reality and running away.

Marty won, but another Maine coon mix would have been a better candidate.

what would CNN and MSBC do without these elections…..

Pollsters should take heed from anyone asking directions of a real New Englander. You NEVER get the right answer.

kuridodwards for president!

marty looks very like christopher houdini. i’m wondering what the slate 6 have been up to while i was at work today.

I don’t know, DC, they might have to hire real reporters and do some work for a change, instead of reading the AP wire over the air.

You forget, Jill – you will get A right answer, you just won’t get THE right answer. They answer the questioned that was asked, not the question that was meant.

It is better to not even think about it, Hipparchia. I don’t even look anymore when I hear a loud noise somewhere else in the house – I’ll find out soon enough.

one of the upsides of the fewer possessions, more cats lifestyle is that i recognize each and every loud noise, and can correctly identify which to ignore and which need immediate attention.

but i was thinking that teh kittehz were stuffing the ballot box for marty while i was away. certainly several of them were reading over my shoulder last night, and if ever there were a group that knows the power of acting as a bloc, it’s these guys.

so, should we take marty’s win as proof that america will choose the black male over the female of any color? 😈

That was a close fought thing at my place.

Dot favored Sarah because in the natural course of things there has to be an alpha female. Excise went along hoping to suck up to Dot and reducing the force of the swat the next time he invaded her space.

Ringo favored Wilson because she’s a bit of a floozy and Wilson looked like fun. Income favored him because it was time for a young tom to be in charge and not be dominated a by an alpha female.

Sox felt they should recognize the achievement of older toms, like Marty, and Property went along because she thinks Sox knows what he’s doing.

I went with Marty because he had his own winter jacket.

Cats are nearly color-blind, so that wasn’t very important in the selection.
