Dear Sir Or Madam

In response to all of your pointed suggestions I have decided that you can take your opinions and fashion them into a suppository. That will allow them to return the same way they came.

When Logan Murphy of Crooks and Liars says that the Corporate Elite Still Terrified Of John Edwards, she isn’t just talking about the multinational corporations, it is just as applicable to the media, another group of corporations.

Paul Kiel of TPM Muckraker notes the $60 million “Swift Boat Fund” of the US Chamber of Commerce in Populists Beware. The corporate world doesn’t want a President or Congress that will stop corporate welfare through subsidies and tax exemptions, nor anyone who considers the well being of the people of the nation over the profits of the multinationals. Mustn’t have any of that, nor any regulation that will halt the worst of the abuses. It should be noted that it is the Chamber’s opinion that illegal acts committed by corporations at the request of an out-of-control government should not be penalized.

Lambert at Corrente is also fed up with the press choosing our President for us, by refusing to cover anyone who is not a media approved candidate. The media apparently feel that they and the VSP of the Village will select and anoint those deemed worthy of office, and others should just shut up and slink away.

Avedon Carol at Sideshow believes that the media selected candidates are a DLC Trojan Horse, and I agree. It was always known that Clinton was firmly in the DLC camp, but it is becoming more apparent that Obama is also a member in good standing, the talk about change being just that – talk.

If you think I’m getting carried away about Obama, consider that he was just endorsed by Nebraska Senator Ben Nelson, who has a voting record that only LIEberman and the Repubs could love. If Obama has convinced Ben Nelson that he is suitable, I’m convinced he is not. I’m not voting for a Republican, no matter what initial is behind their name.

I have a flash for the media: anyone looking at the numbers will tell you that John Edwards holds the balance of power, even if his national numbers weren’t climbing. Edwards is moving ahead in the polls and neither Obama nor Clinton is going to get the delegate count to win on their own.

Mark Adams at the American Street wrote about Edwards, the kingmaker, and runs some numbers. Those numbers are going to swing a lot as Clinton gets a bounce from New Hampshire, but they will return to normal. This happens despite the nonexistence of Edwards as far as the media is concerned.

John Edwards, Dennis Kucinich, and Mike Gravel are Democrats running for the office of President, whether the corporations like it or not. The media could do its job and report on that reality, but I doubt it will happen.

Wow, thems some good links!

and all this time i’ve been trying to shove my opinions down people’s throats….

Those numbers are indeed swinging, and in Clinton’s favor. To really figure it all out you need to look at the state by state poll numbers and buy a decent crystal ball, and still there’s too many undecided folks yet to get a real handle on all of it.

But as it stands now, if Edwards drops out, Obama is toast because some of John’s support will end up with Hillary, enough to put her over.

You don’t believe in the unity pony?

Look, the extremely civil Tom Daschle is, like, Obama’s earliest endorser! You don’t want to return the Democratic Party to the great days of 2002? What’s wrong with you?

The Nelson endorsement was the final straw for me, Frederick, and I’ve been meaning to get to this for a while. They all are part of a pattern, and pattern matching is what analysts do. New Hampshire scared the VSP and the veil dropped.

It’s all part of one’s perspective, Hipparchia. You have to ask yourself if the opinion was the product of the brain or the bowels?

The numbers are going to take a week to settle down, Mark, and the meaning is also dependent on whether the state is proportional or winner-take-all. I see the top three hanging in there, and Kucinich for most of the way. It still possible that Clinton or Obama would need Kucinich’s delegates to put them over, and that would certainly make the convention interesting. If Gore decides to endorse someone, all bets are off.

Lambert, I have a blog, so i’m shrill – common knowledge that. I think I heard it on Faux News. 😈

Ha!!!! Patterns! Yup! Been telling people for YEARS to watch the patterns and follow the threads! And do they listen… *sigh* Thank you sir! LOL

PS, great post! I was laughing hard! LOL And thanks for the links. 🙂

My friend, LadyMin has a theory that the public lied to the pollsters. 😉 Perhaps to show their displeasure at the media. 🙂 Could be… makes some sense to me.

Going to be interesting to watch this! 🙂

Good post Bryan and good links as well. This will be very interesting to watch.

There was a large group of undecided in the polls, Kryten, and the numbers for Obama and Edwards were good. The undecided largely decided to vote for Clinton. I don’t doubt in the slightest that the media reaction to her minute demonstration of emotion help a number of people to vote for her in sympathy.

The number of DINO endorsements is all too indicative of where Obama apparently stands, FM, and it isn’t with the people or for change.

I think the folks who said they were “undecided” were the ones that were not telling the media the truth. Most likely they were 99% sure of who they were going to vote for, but they said they were undecided. That’s what I would do. That’s my opinion anyway.

Having dealt with people in New Hampshire on official business, I can say that there is definitely a lot of them who won’t give you an opinion on anything, even if they are required by law to talk to you. Many of them really don’t like the “circus” that comes to town in Presidential election years, and they will make no accommodation for it. It is very possible that “undecided” was the equivalent of “mind your own business.”

C&L just put up a few interesting posts related to this.

U.S. Sponsored Republican Front Group Claims Kenyan President Lost Election

I decided to post this last one because of this:

Upon further review, it turns out that GOP presidential candidate John McCain is on the board of directors for this non-partisan Republican group. He wants to be our president and engaged in the voting process, I think he should come forward and explain why his group hasn’t made the polling data available to the public. Other names of interest on the board of directors are L. Paul Bremer and Lawrence Eagleburger. These people are just fine with fair and honest elections — just as long as they’re outside the United States.

There’s also this at FDL:
The Polls You Won’t Hear Much About

Cheers. 🙂

Thanks for the links, Kryten, I grabbed the last one for a post I had already written but was posting just as the site went down as a result of a denial-of-service attack on my hosting company.

No problem Bryan. I understand… we had similar issues at LM and elsewhere (the DOS & DDOS). It’s the only response the nutters have. 😉 I have been working in IT security for several years now, if I can be of service, just let me know. 🙂

One thing that amazes me here (so far) is that you seem to have avoided the usual rightwing nutter Trolls! I am sure many other bloggers would love to know how you did that! LOL

I’m happy to help out where I can, and if you already have what I post (links etc), then that at least means I’m on the right wavelength (and at the right place!) 😀

Whatever ego I may have had was well and truly destroyed in Cambodia. So no worries about that m8! 😀

I enjoy truth and honesty, especially from those I respect. If I screw up, I expect to be told.

Just thought you should know. 🙂

My hosting service is pretty good about dealing with these problems because they will host anything that doesn’t violate the law, so a number of the sites are “controversial”.

Oh, trolls come by, but they are generally ignored. I don’t ban people, but I’m not going to respond to stupidity and most of the regulars feel the same way. I have a minimal spam system that reduces the ads, but I have some real winners in the comments archive, and a few that were forwarded to the appropriate “authorities”.

Don’t worry about being told, although it tends to sarcasm more than screaming around here.

Don’t worry about being told, although it tends to sarcasm more than screaming around here.

Yup! One of the things that I noticed and that attracted me to comment here. 😀 I like sarcasm, satire, irony, parody etc! 🙂 You’ve no doubt noticed. 😉 I can obviously be serious as/when required. It’s just so damned difficult to be serious when discussing the morons on the extreme fringes! Not just the rightwingnuts, but the neo-Christians, the faux-news (and not just FOX either!) etc, etc! I cannot stand any form of extremism. I saw too much of it. So I may occasionally *do my nut* when one of these extreme nutters says or does something really insane (which seems to be happening a lot these days!)

I really, REALLY *TRY* to ignore Trolls… really, I do! But… but… some of them just beg for it!! I just can’t help myself sometimes! 😐 On the plus side, my colleges and regular readers of LM usually found it entertaining at least! LOL *sigh* One of them (usually Mark!) would post when an obvious Troll said something really stupid, something like: “Ohh! Now you’ve done it! Wait until Kryten reads this!” etc. LOL Well… I couldn’t disappoint my friends, could I? LOL

The biggest problem with sparing with Trolls is that it gets very boring very fast! And in truth, I would much rather have a long, intelligent debate the members (or your good self) here than spar with a moronic Troll these days. I have much more intelligent discussions with children than is possible with a wingnut. Still… I may have an occasional swipe for fun. 😉

Forewarned, etc… 😀 However, this is your blog, and your rules are the only ones that count. No worries about that! 🙂

17 Bryan { 01.15.08 at 10:27 pm }

There is no rule about responding, it’s just that a number of the regulars started over at the news groups on Usenet, and the verbal combat usually resulted in flame wars, which was a real hemorrhoid on a dial-up, trying to clean out your in-box, so they tend to get ignored.

These days it is a lot easier to manage an in-box or comments, so it’s not as crucial.

Personally, I was in law enforcement for a decade, so I’ve been called everything imaginable and no small number of things that aren’t. Amazingly some people get annoyed when facing a decade in prison and lose their sense of social propriety. Nothing anyone says about me, bothers me anymore.

18 Kryten42 { 01.15.08 at 11:55 pm }

Yes. I’ve become what some may call thick skinned. But that isn’t entirely accurate. I’m at the age and experience level now where I will (and do) accept and seriously consider any criticism from those I respect (because they have earned it), and chose to ignore it from those I don’t know well or have little respect for. There are some exceptions of course. I was forced to learn early that the way to survive with sanity intact was to be flexible, and to learn that I am not always right! 😉 Hard lessons… 🙂

One thing that does really annoy me though is criticism from someone with their own obvious flaws… I usually respond (if at all) with “People in glass houses…”

Oh… and I also really can’t stand the “well-intentioned do-gooder”! God (or someone!) Please save us from them! You know the type… the ones who are so certain they know best, that they will do what they believe is in your best interest, no matter what ones wishes on the subject are! I think most of the people in that category became, or were already, members of, the rightwingnut mutual-adoration “I want Bushgod’s lovechild” club (even the males!)

It’s been quite some time since I was a trouble-maker (Hmmm… Texas in fact!) Where the barman said to us “I think you better leave now! We don’t like troublemakers in here!” Right before one of his kinfolk tried to king-hit me! Hmmph! Double standards indeed!

(But… I will admit… it was fun!) LOL

Ahhh… the wildness and excesses of youth! 😀
