Not What You Think
Eric Alterman proves science types have a sense of humor with Bushcronium. It is funnier if you have a familiarity with particle physics, but it stands up if you just read it through.

"There are two novels that can change a bookish 14-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. Particle physics is totally beyond my brain, but things like “morons” I can certainly understand! What a hoot….thanks for the link!
It’s a nice job. It starts out like a standard science article, and, in fact, element 118 was just created. It reads like the article on 118 – passed through Alice’s mirror.
ROTFL!
One of my best friends is Steven Weinberg’s son-in-law (not that I know Weinberg; I’ve merely met him). I’ll have to pass this one on to him through my friend.
It is a nice piece of snark.
The description of Bushcronium is good!
It is a variant of something that came out when I was doing time as a grad student in physics: The announcement of the discovery of the element “Administratium”, including the observation that administratium “impedes every reaction with which it comes into contact”.
Thanks for the tip, Jim. I’ve posted it to give credit where it’s due.
[…] Jim in comments has located the original for Bushcronium: Administratium. […]
