ONE YEAR LEFT!!
Even if the Democrats don’t find a spine and impeach the criminal conspiracy now in charge, in one year a new gang gets the keys to the government.
Can the nation survive?

"There are two novels that can change a bookish 14-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs."

You are an incurable optimist, Bryan. BushCo hasn’t paid any attention to the Constitution up to this minute. What makes you suppose they’ll start now?
I don’t think they really care. I think the Shrubbery is bored and has wanted to walk away from the whole thing for some time. He’s made his tour, collected the “bling” and now wants to go back to full-time bike riding, the single thing he thinks he’s good at.
i worry that their plan to relieve the boredom is to invade iran. possibly to be followed by declaring a state of emergency and martial law sometime between nov 2008 and jan 2009.
[i also worry that my howard hughes cat has found some way to get inside the walls]
There are lunatics in the Hedgemony who are working towards the $500+/barrel oil of attacking Iran, but I doubt the Shrubbery cares any more.
I wouldn’t doubt that – if there is a way, a cat will find it.
perhaps the shrubbery doesn’t care any more, but i’m not convinced that cheney is ready to cede power just yet.
[i’m also hoping that both worries are just products of an overactive imagination]
Yikes! I noticed the date as well, but I assumed I’d be the first on this thread to suggest that Dub and Dick might not yield power on 1/20/2009. I should have known everyone would have considered that possibility.
If we do not have a new president and (especially) vice president by the end of that day, maybe there are enough old-style conservative GOPers around to dissuade the neocons from the course of action described by the old bumper sticker as “Putsch/Chicanery.” If not… well, then we will be cursed with living in interesting times.
The militias would go nuts and they are entirely too well armed for my liking. They are already paranoid and finding out everything is being tapped hasn’t helped. It could get very “interesting” indeed.
My countdown calendar is having the days marked off on it as they pass. Wee!
As for the new administration in 2008, the choice we’re going to be faced with, I suspect, is whether we are going to get raped up the bunghole with a 5 foot pole, or a 5 inch pole. The only difference is that getting raped up the bunghole with a 5 inch pole is generally survivable, while the 5 foot pole… not so much. But either way, we’ll still be raped. The media conglomerates have made sure of this by marginalizing any candidate not intending on raping us as “crazy” or “not serious” or just disappearing them altogether (e.g. Edwards after Iowa, where he came in second but… his name was never mentioned in the post-Iowa reports of the outcome).
The media is trying to control this more than ever before, and it is becoming extremely noticeable. They don’t want anyone in power who will actually do anything.
